This morning we got a very special request: Can you move an
Larry the lobstereleven pound, 70 year-old Lobster from New York to Maine?
As we learned more about the lobster, we found out that his name is Larry and he's somewhat of a crustacean celebrity in New York City. He lives in his own private tank at Oceana Restaurant, a swanky (and yummy) looking restaurant in Rockefeller Center.
For $275 you can eat Larry. That's a lotta' lobster tail.

We had posted a picture of him relaxing in his pet travel crate before he left, and this just goes to show that a pet who has been
We tend to focus quite a bit on pet moving, particularly internationally. However there's some great information out there on the internet about pet travel within the US.

This afternoon I came across this great blog on living in Japan talking about the change in attitudes toward pets in Japan over the last few years:
We're always on the look out for new pet travel products and this MSNBC article has some great options for pets on the go. One that caught our eye was the aptly-named Sleepypod, a pet carrier that not only provides the perfect place for your small pet to catch some shut-eye but also can helpyour pet to travel safely in the car. The un
We've been arranging door-to-door services for pets for years and we've always joked that we should provide the same concierge services for people's bags! Now United Airlines is jumping on board by offering door-to-door baggage services[img_assist|nid=5163|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=119|height=119]. Their new service aims to take the "lug" out of "luggage."
Rudi and Sunny are two long haired Daschunds we're currently moving from Calgary, AB, Canada to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They look pretty content to be hanging out on their couch right now!

Lufthansa and Continental Airlines, two of our favorite pet-friendly airlines, have teamed up to offer a free trip to tour Continental and Lufthansa headquarters as well as the Airbus factory. Pretty cool!
We currently have two four-legged customers who were unable to finish the 180-day pre-quarantine in the US prior to going to Australia. Most people don't like the idea of their pet having to spend six months in quarantine, but it's actually not "doggy jail" like they think.
I came across this article by the Canadian Press today about Montreal and its growing trend of pet friendly accomodations and events. The article notes that "Montreal is one step closer to being North America's Paris" by offering "'Paws and Pray,'" a recently inaugurated monthly communion church service.
We received notice of the Wysong Pet Food Recall on LinkedIn today.

This was great to see come across the wires today:
SALEM, Ore. — The Humane Society of the United States commends Gov. Ted Kulongoski for signing a resolution declaring October 2009 as "Adopt a Shelter Pet Month" in Oregon. The resolution urges Oregonians to adopt dogs, cats and other companion animals from the state's animal shelters and rescue groups.
We wrote about the HAPPY (or Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years) Act, a new bill that will make pet expenses tax free and proposed by Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Mich, back in August. A new ABC article and video about the act descrbies its gaining momentum, particularly in light of the "foreclosed pets" problem in America -- the growing trend of pets who end up in shelters because their owners cannot afford to keep them.
The Dallas Morning News has an interesting article today about airlines' fees, which started becoming more numerous when fuel prices started going up. Airlines are arguing that these fees are the only way to stay in business.
Born in the crisis of high fuel prices last year, charges for such services as checked bags, seat selection and pillows have become a vital part of most airlines' revenues.
If you've recently moved and are thinking about remodeling or renovating your new house, be sure to stop by The Renovator's Wife Blog (great name!). She's got some great tips on how to renovate your home while keeping your pets calm.
She also has some interesting thoughts on moving with pets:
I'm having huge issues getting answers about relocating my cat from Hong Kong to Hawaii. She originally relocated with me from the UK in 2007 and has already had her Rabies Serology certificate/blood test done. After some debate, I was told that this would be accepted by the Hawaiin Government, now only to be told, its not valid because its out of date or some such thing. I'm pulling my hair out, as Jessie has just had her updated Rabies vaccination. Can you help. I cannot find any proper answers anywhere to the question of the rabies serology..and what IS or IS NOT accepted!!
Myth:
The pet cargo hold is dangerously hot/cold.
Reality:
On most flights that accept pets, the cargo area itself is climate-controlled just like the passenger cabin above. So why do airlines have temperature restrictions? While many airlines have "Weather Embargoes" during the summer/winter months, it is not because of the cargo hold temperatures.
Remember Oscar, the French bulldog we posted a photo of the other day?
Well, he made it safely to Malaysia! Here's a note from our customer, Yee, about our services.
Georgie is an Ori Pei dog we moved to Shanghai a couple of weeks ago, and many people were following her international pet travel story on our blog!
We were thrilled to get some great pictures of Georgie relaxing in her new condo in Shanghai today. She looks like she's enjoying her home and her owners tell us that she loves looking out the windows.

We received this wonderful thank you note today from Stefanie, whose Havanese dogs, Rico and Lola, we moved from San Francisco to the United Kingdom yesterday!
You might remember when we moved little Bowie, a miniature Australian Shepherd, from Texas to Doha about six months ago. Back then he was just a little pup.

We moved Tommy and Pasha from Miami, Florida to Beijing, China. Our customer, Amela, sent us an email with these pictures saying "Our little Lola was so happy to see her puppies -- the puppies also danced with happiness!!"
It's so wonderful to see happy pets reunited with their owners -- especially when they're as cute as Lola!

Every day PetRelocation.com gets phone calls from people around the world wanting to know how much it costs to ship a puppy. Our first question is always "Do you know the person you're buying the puppy from?" Nine times out of ten, people are being scammed by individuals pretending to have some sort of adorable fuzzball that they "just want to give to a good home." Unfortunately these scammers prey on people's emotions to talk them into sending hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars to ship a

If you're considering moving in with a new partner, husband or wife with pets, additional precautions should be taken to make sure that the transition will be made smoothly.

If you're planning on traveling with your pet in the United States, you might be wondering about whether or not your pet needs a microchip. Here are some frequently asked questions.
Does my pet need a microchip to travel?
Moving within the US, your pet is not required to have a microchip to travel. However, because a microchip is the only permanent form of identification, it is recommended that you consider getting one prior to moving with your pet.
