It's a common question, and one that expat resource Living Abroad recently tackled:  what do you have to classify your dog as before you can move your pet to Saudi Arabia?

Most people do not realize that dogs are only allowed into Saudi Arabia if they are classified as "guard or hunting dogs."  This can usually be arranged fairly easily for pets like Rottweilers and hound dogs, but what if you have a Jack Russell or a Chihuahua?

However the holiday season, always a hectic and busy time, can get a bit hairier when there are pets involved.  Here are some tips on how to keep your pet travel running smoothly from Turkey Day to Auld Lang Syne.

Know before you go

Many airports have shortened customs hours or close completely during the holidays. If you are planning on traveling internationally with your pet during the holiday season, make sure you know in advance what days and times your pets can enter. We recently posted Costa Rica's holiday hours at San Juan International Airport, as well as Australia's pet quarantine hours during the holiday season.  How can you be sure you have the necessary airport information prior to your trip?  Well, if you have an iPhone, there's an app for that!  Otherwise, check out IATA, which provides up to date customs and airport information for domestic and international travelers.

USA Today launches new pet community

If you're a news junkie and a pet lover, head on over to USA Today's new pet community, the Paw Print Post.  It compiles their latest pet-related stories along with an interactive community that allows users to interact in an on-site forum as well.

Fifty percent of expats who move to China leave early

A new study is being reported by China Daily that 50% of new expats to China leave early due to a difficult transition.

China Transition Institute (CTI) president David Israel-Rosen said most foreigners are unprepared for what life will be like when they arrive in China.
"It is moving from the West to the East," he said. "It is not like moving from Chicago to Denver."

Moving pets to Brazil from the US - Are consular endorsements required?

Many Latin and South American countries require not only a USDA endorsement from the state veterinarian but also a consular endorsement from their government's consulate office.  However, Brazilhas adopted a "norm of reciprocity," which means that countries that do not require a Brazilian government endorsement for shipments coming from Brazil are treated in kind and not required to provide a Brazilian conuslar endorsement for shipments into Brazil.

Remember Tiger the Shih Tzu and her festive photo in San Francisco before she moved to Singapore?  Well, she made the big trip a few weeks ago and, after a short stay at the Sembawang Animal Quarantine Station for her required quarantine time, she's now back at home with her family and catching up on some much-needed Zzz's.  It's hard work being as cute as Tiger is all the time!

Surprise! Rosie the Puppy Travels to Dubai

A few months ago, we were contacted by Vicky, who was wanting to purchase a Cairn Terrier puppy in the United States to send to Dubai as a surprise for her daughter Daisy.  Her friend in Dubai also wanted to purchase a puppy from the same breeder.  Vicky was quickly finding out that moving puppies to Dubai isn't always the easiest thing.  Pets must be at least 4 months of age to allow for adequate rabies vaccination time.
