Cat Travel to the UK—“Is There a Quarantine?”

Name: Carrie
Number of Pets: Two
Pet Type: Cats
Pet Breed: Orange Tabby
From: USA
To: London, England

Hi there, and thank you in advance for your time.

I am not doing this yet, but I want to look into it as there is a possibility my office may relocate me to London, England. Someone recently told me that in order to migrate my cats they would need to be quarantined for six months first before I could take them into what would be my new home abroad. Is that true?

Many thanks,

Carrie

Hi Carrie,

You will need to prepare your cats for the trip by following a few import requirements, but there is no longer a six month quarantine in place for pets going to the UK. Since the beginning of 2012, the UK has been in line with the rest of the EU, making it much easier for most people to travel into the country with their pets.

Here are the pet import requirements for the UK. Please take a look at them and let us know if you'd like some help planning out your vet visits, securing the correct paperwork and getting your cats from  your old home to your new one.

Thanks for checking in with us, and good luck with everything!
