International Pet Travel with a Service Dog

Hi PetRelocation,

How does pet relocating work for a registered service/therapy dog? I'll be moving from the United States to the United Kingdom.

Thanks,

Kirstie

Hi Kirstie,

Thank you for your question! Each airline has its own rules regarding international pet travel and service animal transportation. We recommend checking the website of the airline(s) you're considering or giving them a call to find out the details.

For example, we often use British Airways when going from the US to the UK and transfer our clients' pets via cargo. On their website, they say that registered assistance dogs can fly in the cabin and they provide all the information you'll need to navigate that process. All other pets must fly via cargo when using British Airways. Here is more information about traveling internationally with service animals.

As for our services, we arrange door-to-door pet transportation and our clients' pets travel via cargo (most of the time unaccompanied). Please refer to the pet import requirements for the United Kingdom if you have any questions about additional procedures, and take a look at these frequently asked pet travel questions for general information about how to travel safely with pets.

Hope this helps! Good luck with everything and please contact us if you think we can be of assistance.
