“Is a Rabies Titer Test Required for United States Pet Travel?”

Hi PetRelocation,

I'm moving from Angola to Texas with my dog. Is the titer test required?

Thanks,

Yohanny

Hi Yohanny,

Thanks, great question! The titer test is generally required for countries that are very strict about staying rabies-free or low-rabies, and though pets are required to be vaccinated against rabies, the titer test is not required for United States pet imports.

The United States is actually one of the easiest countries to move a pet -- take a look at the rules and requirements here. Essentially you just need an updated rabies vaccine (as mentioned) and we recommend full vaccinations as well as a microchip. You should also check with the airline you'll be using to find out what they require, which is generally a health certificate stating your dog is healthy and fit to fly.

Take a look at a few more pet travel tips as you prepare for your dog's flight, and if you think you'd like to hire some assistance with your move, contact us for a consultation. We'd be happy to discuss your pet move options!

Either way, good luck and safe pet travels.
