More Questions About Australia Pet Quarantine

Hi,

I am looking to take my dog Barney to Australia. He has had his rabies injection and is waiting to get his antibodies blood test. The problem is I am now going in June -- is there any way he can enter Australia before the 180 days even if it means staying in quarantine longer?

Thanks,

Nicola

Hi Nicola,

Australia is very particular about its pet import procedures, and you'll need to follow them exactly (so no, unfortunately you won't be able to bring your dog as early as you'd like).

It sounds like you have a handle on the requirements, but just in case, here is the link to the official rules as well as the drop-down tool that outlines your dog's move schedule based on when you started the process.

Know that pet owners often move before or after their pets (it's often better for the pet to arrive after the owner has had a chance to move into the new place and settle in). You may need to enlist the help of a boarding facility, friend or family member to keep your dog in Scotland (if you end up deciding to go first) and help you finish out the requirements before Barney can eventually fly to meet you and then spend the required 10 days in quarantine.

Please let us know if you'd like further advice from us -- we'd be happy to help. Thanks for the question, and good luck with everything!
