Pet Travel Question: Microchips & Relocating Dogs to India

Hello,

I have a couple of questions about moving my dog to India. How do they put in the microchip? Is there any quarantine period in India?

I'm concerned about my dog's safety and want to do everything as safely as possible.

Thanks,

Vaidehi

Hello Vaidehi,

Thanks for your questions -- they (and your concerns) are totally understandable. First, the microchip (which is very small) is inserted under your dog's skin between the shoulder blades. The procedure is very minor and requires no anesthesia, etc. Read more about pet microchips on our blog; hopefully you'll see that they're not such a big deal!

Here are the pet import requirements for India. There is no quarantine if you follow these rules, but it's advised that you start preparing early in order to get everything in order. We actually recently discussed pet-friendly India on our blog... It sounds like this is a country that's becoming more and more welcoming to furry family members, and we hope you find this to be true for yourself.

Please contact us if you have any more questions, and good luck!
