Is there anything that is needed other than his vet's paper showing he has had his rabies shot?

Thanks,

Hi Faith,

Thanks for your question. Moving pets to the United States is a pretty straightforward process. Essentially you'll need proof of an up-to-date rabies vaccine (as you mentioned) as well as a vet health certificate stating your dog is fit to fly. Here are the US import requirements spelled out in more detail.

If you are in fact flying, double check with the airline you'll be using to make sure they don't currently have restrictions that may affect you. Flying with snub-nosed breeds can be tricky sometimes, as in the interest of safety many carriers limit when Pugs, Bulldogs and the like can fly (especially during the summer). Here are a few safe summer pet shipping tips that are good to be aware of.

If you happen to be driving, this post about how to cross the US/Canada border with pets via car might have some helpful information (though the US is generally easier to enter than Canada).

We know that's a lot to take in, so please contact us if you have any more questions. Good luck!
