Hi PetRelocation,

I have two dogs that I would like to take with me to relocate to Australia in January (end of January). Do I follow the instructions as suggested and then board the dogs when we arrive in Australia?

Please advise.

Sonya

Hi Sonya,

Moving pets to Australia requires that you follow a series of specific steps and pay close attention to timing. Please take a look at the official information about importing pets via the Australia Government Department of Agriculture website. Pets must undergo a 10-day quarantine upon arrival after all vaccine and health document requirements have correctly been fulfilled, and the process usually takes 190 days altogether.

Unless you have already started this process (microchip implantation, titer test, etc.) and are well on your way to completion, your dogs likely won't be able to travel at the end of next month. There's no need to panic, though; one of our Specialists would be happy to talk to you about your move options, so please fill out our consultation form or give our office a call if you'd like.

Many people end up flying before or after their pets when quarantine and import requirements make timing tricky to manage. Feel free to read some of our recent customer stories for an idea of the diverse array of scenarios that pet travel tends to bring about. Often things aren't as simple as you first imagined them to be, but multiple solutions are available and it's all about finding the one that works best for you and your pets.

Please review the Australia pet import rules and timelines closely and then let us know if we can be of further assistance. Thanks for reaching out, and good luck with everything!
