Puppy Travel to the United States

Dear PetRelocation,

I want to bring a three-month-old Pomeranian puppy from Taiwan to California. Will my puppy need to be in quarantine for 30 days in the USA? I do not want to bring my puppy to the US if he has to be in quarantine for 30 days.

Please let me know the procedures.

Hi Audrey,

Good news, the US does not impose a quarantine when pets meet the proper import procedures. Check the rules out here -- basically you just need a vet health certificate issued within 10 days of travel stating your puppy is fit to fly, and  you need to prove your dog is up to date on his rabies vaccines (unless he's actually younger than three months, then the rabies is not required).

Note that we do recommend waiting until a puppy is at least four months old before traveling with them, as this allows them time to grow strong enough to withstand the travel experience. Especially for long trips, it helps if they're more fully developed.
