Questions About Dog Travel to Italy

Hi PetRelocation,

Do you know what I need to do to get my dog to Italy? We are moving for a year for school and would really like to bring her with us.

What do I need to do to prepare my dog for this trip?

Thanks,

Karoline

Hi Karoline,

Thanks for your inquiry, we're happy to help with some information and tips about international pet travel to Italy.

To start, please take a look at the pet import requirements for Italy for a rundown of the vaccines and paperwork needed, etc. Note that, depending on the status of your dog's rabies vaccine and other details, it may take a few weeks to prepare for this trip.

In addition to these requirements, you'll also want to help your dog get used to her crate if she isn't already. It's also definitely worth it to do some research and choose a pet friendly airline, as some carriers have better pet safe policies in place than others (we typically use KLM, Lufthansa and United, for example).

If you think you'd like some professional pet shipping assistance, please fill out our online pet travel consultation form to connect to a Specialist. Using IPATA.org to search for local agents would be a good choice if you're just looking for partial services (we provide door-to-door pet transportation for our clients' pets, which we know isn't what everyone is looking for).

Hope this helps, Karoline. Good luck with your studies and your future pet travels!
