See San Diego Airport’s New Indoor Pet Relief Station

San Diego Airport's Pet Relief Area

Pet friendly amenities are becoming increasingly common everywhere you look, but San Diego International Airport takes the lead when it comes to easy-to-use pet restroom facilities. Lindbergh Field recently underwent a billion-dollar expansion that includes a "Pet Relief" comfort station between gates 46 and 47 in Terminal 2 West.

The enclosed 75-square-foot room is outfitted with fake grass, a hydrant (for inspiration?), waste bags and a hand washing station. Employees clean the area twice a day, and two deodorizers are in place to keep the environment as pleasant as possible.

The San Diego facility resembles the pet comfort station at Dulles International but offers a little more privacy, and as opposed to the other four outdoor relief areas at Lindbergh, does not require that travelers exit the terminals and pass through security.

The spot was designed by design firm HNTB's airport architecture team, who says they will pitch similar ideas to other airports. We're happy to hear that more and more pets will be greeted with welcoming options as they travel in the future.

Here's a quick video of a dog checking out the facilities. What do you think? Do advances like this make it more likely you'll travel with your pet?
