Petrelocation.com - We received this email from our friend Terri Crisp at the SPCA - Operation Baghdad Pups program yesterday and thought we'd share it with our readers. The SPCA is doing a fantastic job of not only helping rescue the dogs and cats from the streets of Baghdad, but the soldiers who befriend them while serving there.

Hello From Kuwait!

Below is an email I got on Friday from one of the soldiers being helped by Operation Baghdad Pups. His dog Max was scheduled to fly out of Baghdad to the US on Wednesday night with one of our volunteers, along with 4 other dogs. As Zach and some of the guys were loading Max on a military convoy headed for Baghdad Max slipped out of his collar and they could not recapture him before the convoy had to leave. Zach was completely devastated. All the spaces we had for the next two flights this week were filled with other animals. Zach only had this week to get Max out of Iraq or hed have no choice but to put him back out on the cruel and deadly streets of this war torn country.

I was standing in the Kuwait Airport getting ready to see Jennifer off to go pick up another group of animals in Baghdad when I got this email from Zach. At this point Zach thought there were no more options . . .

I am out of strength. I am out of reason. I have exhausted everything I have. In the face of near success I failed 20 feet from my goal. I tried again, and once again fell short. I have expended all that I can - my time, my word to my wife, my money - so that few would suffer in the face of failure. But I fell short. I can do no more. I cannot get Max to BIAP. I thought I would have good men stand behind me. I even thought some luck might fall my way at the last possible minute.

I have nothing left . . .

I thank you Terri for all you do. For not giving up. For this program. You're an angel in times full of demons.

I am tried. I am sorry. I will keep Max corralled till Sunday and send him to BIAP just in case. This is all I have left. I am out of strength. I have cried all I can. I have lost sight of the light.

Thank you

God Bless and Keep You . . .

Zach

I immediately emailed Zach back and got no response. I sent him half a dozen emails. Still nothing. In each email I kept trying to get Zach to see that it was not time to give up. We had to keep pushing for a solution, even though I was running out of options too.

Because we did not give up, I am happy to say that Max will be flying with me tomorrow night to the US. I got Lufthansa to allow one more dog on the flight.

This just gives you an idea of what these dogs mean to these guys over there. The emotion is pretty intense and the rewards are out of this world!

Humanely,

Terri Crisp
