Moving Larry the 70 year-old Lobster?

This morning we got a very special request:  Can you pet move an eleven pound, 70 year-old Lobster from New York to pet friendly Maine?

As we learned more about the lobster, we found out that his name is Larry and he's somewhat of a crustacean celebrity in New York City.  He lives in his own private tank at Oceana Restaurant, a swanky (and yummy) looking restaurant in Rockefeller Center.

For $275 you can eat Larry.  That's a lotta' lobster tail.

But others believe he shouldn't die a hard-boiled fate.

In a recent Bloomberg article about Larry the lobster, Ryan Sutton writes:

There's something deeply unsettling -- logic and science aside -- about feasting on a creature so long-lived. Surviving to such an age, having dodged lobster traps all his life, doesn't he deserve some sort of "get out of jail free" card?

What do you think?  We're going to try to help get Larry to a safe harbor in Maine.  We'll keep you updated on how it goes.

Update (November 4, 2009):

Larry the Lobster was freed into the oceans of Maine and released.  We hope he lives on forever!

I don't want Larry to be eaten. I can't imagine enjoying eating a sweet 70 year old soul, even if he is a delicious crustacean. So, where is Larry now?

I think it would make good advertizing for the business if they kept hiim alive and used him as a mascot instead of a cheap $250.00 meal.  he should be at least $3000.00 with his celebrity status.

I think you should post an add on your website to contribute funds towards Saving Larry. I would definitely donate toward his cause to keep him alive; which should be done in the first place!

Thanks guys!  Larry is still in New York.  We are going to work on doing something to help Larry.  We'll let you know what we get sorted out.
