Jillian & Romeo!

Petrelocation.com - Jillian, one of the newest members of our Asia-Pacific team, traveled to Dubai. She wrote up a great summary of her experience for anyone thinking about pet travel relocating to the UAE!

I recently spent two weeks in Dubai visiting my older brother. It was quite different from what I had imagined. My brother moved out there about four years ago when he started a website, and I am now finally able to put a picture to what his life is like out there. Dubai is an incredible, extravagant place with loads of opportunity for the entrepreneur. However, there is no mistaking, it really is a city in the middle of the desert. In great attempt to make the inhabitable habitable, the occupants of Dubai do an excellent job with their landscaping; the lush green parks appear as island sanctuaries dispersed throughout the sea of dust, sand and incredibly tall buildings.
The dog in this photo is Romeo, a spunky papillon that belongs to my brother and his girlfriend. Romeo was born in Texas and moved out to the UAE as a young pup. He is just over two years old now and seems to be loving his life in Dubai. While I was there we took Romeo with us on a number of excursions: to the beach, to the office, to the furniture store, to the coffee shop, etc. Although Dubai has few restrictions on taking your pet places with you, it is important to note that many of the locals are unfamiliar with dog behavior and temperament and seem to be a little frightened by them. Be sure to keep your pets on a leash and under control.
On my holiday I also managed to visit the Dubai Kennel and Cattery (DKC). PetRelocation works closely with the DKC so it was great to finally meet everyone in person and get a closer look at the pet-friendly facility. I was very pleased with everyone I met and they all seemed to be huge pet lovers (just like us here at PetRelocation). The kennel was also very well organized and looked very comfortable for our furry family members (lots of shade in the outdoor areas which is crucial for those hot summer days). All in all it was a great trip but I do hope that my brother moves back soon. We miss him too much!

I want to go to Dubai but I don't like to live there. They said that Dubai has many tourist destinations and is dog-friendly. I just wonder if all breeds are allowed?

Hi Nicole - they certainly do allow many breeds but aggressive breeds are not allowed.
Papillons are welcome. :)
