Hello, I was wondering what I need to get for my dog to travel with me to Germany? We are going only to visit for 10 days. I hear conflicting information as to what she needs. She has a microchip already that has 15 digits, does she need an additional chip? She received a rabies shot exactly 30 days prior to travel, and when does the form ANNEX II form need to be filled out? I hear a lot of conflicting information and I'm trying to get everything in place for a safe, easy travel.
Thanks,
Jeannine
Hi Jeannine,
Thanks for the question! To get started, take a look at the
pet import requirements for Germany. You'll see here that, among other things, you need an internationally recognized microchip and the International Health Certificate does need to be filled out within 10 days of departure. While we often move pets from the US to Germany, many people in your position may decide that the cost and stress of pet travel simply isn't worth it if it's just for a quick vacation and not a permanent move. Often pets are much happier when they're left with a trusted pet sitter, but of course the decision is up to you and we're happy to offer our advice.

Hi Rob,

We recently moved to Germany from the US. We would like to travel back with our two dogs to the US for vacation. What do I require to bring my dogs back to Germany? We will only be gone for 10 days.
Thanks
DoreenHi Doreen,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. These are the
pet import requirements for the United States and the
pet import requirements for Germany. Make sure your vaccinations are up-to-date, and you'll need to once again have the correct health documents signed and verified within 10 days of departure.
While it sounds like you're experienced travelers, we normally suggest that pet owners avoid booking long flights for their dogs if possible (it may not be worth the time, effort and stress to go through the experience of flying if it's for a quick vacation rather than a permanent relocation).
Please
contact us if you have any more questions, Doreen, and good luck with whatever you decide!

Number of Pets: 2
Pet Type: Cat
From: Dublin

I am considering moving for eight months to a year from Dublin, Ireland to Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain. Aerlingus does not accept any pets in cabin, nor in cargo. I was thinking about taking a longer route and going through Germany with two or three stops, but that sounds too long for the cats to be comfortable. What would be my options? Also, they are Irish cats, would they suffer too much in the hot weather?
Thanks,
Silvia
Hi Silvia,
Thanks for your question! First, there are a few
pet travel misconceptions it may be helpful to address. It's easy to assume that cabin travel is always preferable to cargo travel, but in fact this isn't the case.
Cabin travel can be noisy and stressful for pets, while being placed in the temperature-controlled cargo area run by a pet-friendly airline tends to offer a less confusing experience. Also, it's often assumed that direct flights are best, but in fact we often schedule a few shorter flights so that pets have a chance to take breaks at
pet-relief areas.
In terms of the climate in the Canary Islands, that's an issue that's best to discuss with your vet.
Good luck with whatever decisions you make, Silvia! You're certainly welcome to
contact us with more questions, and we also have a
free quote form if you're interested in finding out more about the cost of our services.

I am going to be flying my 70 lb dog on a Lufthansa flight from Houston, changing planes in Frankfurt, Germany, then going on to Baku, Azerbaijan. Can you please help me with what EXACT paperwork I will need for the entire flight? I keep reading many different requirements from various sites, and they seem to be different. Are all the travel forms the same for travel? Any help you would give is greatly appreciated. I'm planning on leaving at the end of January.
Thanks,

I have a local Ugandan dog (Charizard) who has been inoculated against rabies and parvo. I was a volunteer here in Uganda and I plan to take my dog home. She'll be two years old, spayed and weighs approximately 30 pounds. I have an approved travel crate and the necessary certification.
What airlines would you recommend, and do you have any other tips? I just want to make sure I have anything correct. I believe the possible layovers are Belgium, London and Germany. Also, she does not have a microchip -- is that required?
Thanks,
TiffanyHi Tiffany,
Thanks for your question! Here are the
pet import requirements for the United States. This is one of the easier countries to import pets, and yes, you will need a microchip. We recommend a
pet-friendly airline such as KLM, Lufthansa or Continental, and for more information about possible routes, costs and and other travel concerns, please contact

Hi, I plan to import a puppy next year around May 2012. I'm fully aware of what is required by law for travel, but not sure how many airports accept the import of domestic pets. I can't seem to find a list. Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
UnaHi Una,
We've been following the topic of pet travel to the UK pretty closely lately because they're set to relax their import requirements beginning
Jan. 1, 2012. Take a look at our latest blog post regarding this issue (
clarifying the new pet import rules to the UK), where we outline the UK airports to which you can import pets (hint:
LHR, LGW, MAN, BRS and DSA).

Can we relocate a puppy without the Rabbies Vaccine?
Thanks,
MatthewHi Matthew,
Thanks for your question! It's important to put your dog's safety first, thus we'd advise that you wait to fly. It's our company policy not to relocate puppies until they are at least four months old. They're old enough to get a rabies vaccine by then, and they're generally better able to deal with the traveling experience.
Beyond that, here are the
pet import requirements for Germany. Take a look at the information out there, and please
contact us if you have any more questions. Good luck with everything!

Thanks so much for your help,

Can I send an 8-week-old puppy to Germany without getting a Rabies shot?
Thanks,
LizHi Liz,
Thanks for your question! Because the health of a pet should come first when planning a move, it's our company policy not to relocate puppies until they are at least four months old. They're old enough to get a rabies vaccine by then, and they're generally better able to deal with the traveling experience.

Hello,
I cannot understand something about rabies vaccinations and importing dogs in Europe. I found some information for importing pets to Bulgaria on the site of the
Bulgarian Embassy in London, but should the vaccine be given "within the last 12 months AND minimum of 4 weeks before arrival" or is it "within the last 12 months OR minimum of 4 weeks before arrival"? We plan to travel in the beginning of November. Our vaccination was done in 2009 - more than year ago. We will redo it now but what about this ONE MONTH regulation?
Thanks for your assistance,
Iv.Hi Iv,
Thanks for the question! The details surrounding pet moves can definitely be confusing, so hopefully we can clarify this issue. Simply, in order to
move your pet to Bulgaria, you will need to wait at least a month from the time of the rabies vaccine. (It needs to fall within that stated time period -- more than a month, but less than a year.)
Hopefully this answers your question. Please
contact us if you need any more help, and good luck!

I am in the process of shipping my daughter's two cats to her in Germany. I plan to ship them out of Charlotte and she will pick them up in Frankfurt, Germany. She is working for the DOD in Bamberg. They have already received the
ISO microchip and the rabies vaccine. They go back to the vet on October 13th to get their certificates. My concern is for the USDA endorsement. How should that be handled? I would like to ship them on October the 14th but I don't know if that is possible. Any information you can give me on this matter would be appreciated.
Thank You,
MaryIt's hard to say exactly how long it will take the USDA to return your paperwork to you, but it's best to have at least a couple of days to spare. Your proposed deadline is cutting it pretty close, as we usually provide a pre-paid FedEx envelope and allow at least a few days to receive the USDA documents back. You may need to try to reschedule either your vet appointment or departure date, or plan to board the cats for a night or two until the paperwork comes back.

Our puppy is five weeks old. Moving him to Germany would require different vaccines at least four weeks before the travels, but since he is so young, it's not possible to vaccinate him that early. Are there any exceptions for young puppies concerning the required vaccinations?
Thanks in advance,
DennisHi Dennis,
These are the
