The Bulldog Days of Summer: Keeping Snub-Nosed Breeds Cool & Chill

Every now and then I get to pet sit for a friend of mine's bulldog, Billie Jean. As with all bulldog's Billie doesn’t handle the heat very well, and in the summer here in Austin and can get really hot. Even on the cooler days of summer Billie can over heat very easily, since she's one of the snub-nosed breeds that makes her susceptible to overheating during pet travel and being outside.

Billie Jean, chilling out at the office!

One great perk about my job here at PetRelcation.com is that I get to bring my dog to work, and on the days that I get to pet sit for Billie, she gets to come too. All the dogs here at the office have a great big dog house with AC and all, only thing is the doggy door is just a bit too high for Billie to climb in and out easily, so she ends up spending most of the time outside.

On the real hot days Billie usually only spends half the day outside with the other dogs, and then in the hottest part of the day we let her sneak inside where she promptly gets hard to work snoring and snorting under my desk, enjoying the AC. The snoring can go from bad to worse, with a real loud snort about every hour a so just to keep the office on its toes. It's always a great time when Billie Jean makes her guest appearances at the office, we just need to keep her out of the heat!
