After the Move: Getting Your Pet Bird Used to His New Home

By Pet Relocation | March 26th, 2010

Move your pet bird

We've been moving lots of birds lately - from parakeets to macaws to cockatiels, birds are definitely flying around the world!  Taking the time to get your bird used to his new environment requires some extra care but makes it easier in the long run for you and your feathered friend!

Nest Sweet Nest

Where you put your bird's cage in your new home is very important.  Ideally you'll want to make sure the cage is placed somewhere that there will not be too much activity to overwhelm him.  However, if your bird is particularly attached to you, you'll want to make sure he is somewhere he won't be alone all of the time. If you can, find a spot for your bird's cage that is located in a quiet spot in the house but somewhere he can still interact with you.

Micro-Pigs and Not-So-Micro Pig Shipping Requirements

By Pet Relocation | February 15th, 2010

Today we got a request for shipping a micro-pig from the UK to the US.  While these little guys are a whole lot of adorable in a tiny package, they're not easy to move.

Because of swine flu (H1N1) concerns, shipping pigs (no matter how small) requires the shipper to fulfill all of the import requirements for importing swine in to the US.

This includes a sixty-day isolation period prior to export, an import permit from the US, and thirty days' quarantine upon arrival in the US.  Several tests are also required after entry, including tuberculosis and brucellosis tests.

The USDA has a full list of import requirements for shipping pigs to the US.

Or, if you're just here for the micro-pigs, check out this adorable video of Squeaky, a micro-pig at the Little Pig Farm in the UK!

One Austin, Texas parrot owner learned a valuable lesson about buying and selling parrots over the internet.

As NBC affiliate KXAN reported:

Shipping Slimy Pets: CITES permits aren't for the faint of heart!

By Pet Relocation | July 14th, 2009

Many times our pets aren't furry.  Sometimes they're slimy, sticky or scratchy -- but loved nonetheless!  We still provide our same great services for shipping exotic species.  Today we got an email from Ian C.:

Hi, Do you do permit acquiring for shipping endangered species (captive breed), says Axolotl, from US to Canada? It will need a CITES permit and US Fish and Wildlife Export Import License/permit.

How to Move Pet Birds to England

By Pet Relocation | April 27th, 2009

I have a Nanday conure and I am planning on returning to England from the USA. What are the requirements to take my pet bird with me?  Thanks, Lynne

Moving pet birds can be quite difficult, especially these days given the avian influenza concerns.  While it is possible to take a pet bird from the United States to England, it can require a lot of pre-move paperwork and documentation.
