Moving Dogs from San Francisco to Paris

What Type of Pets Do You Have?:
1 dog
How was your experience finding pet care in your new country?:
I moved my dog from San Francisco to Paris, France, and had a relatively easy time finding pet care. I found one vet simply by walking down the street and found organic pet bakery location online, who then recommended a great dog walker.
Any other suggestions?:
Ma Bon Chien, dog bakery, Paris.
How was your pet(s) reaction to the new environment?:
My dog was obviously shaken up at the airport but once we got in the airport taxi (he loves cars) he started getting life back into himself. What really made him happy, was when I showed him his new bed right away, ready and waiting for him! He jumped into the bed and rolled around on his head, because he understood that he was home. He loves his new surroundings because there are a lot of nature walks we take, but french people do not other people's dogs, as Americans do. So my dog had to get used to less attention, but he is very, very happy.
What's your favorite local hotspot that you've discovered?:
The Champ de Mars (park behind the Eiffel Tower) because it's one of the few places dogs can run free in Paris. The 7th arrondissement is the only place for dogs, because you have the park along the Seine, the park of the Invalides, plus the Champ de Mars. A dog's dream! Most other parks in Paris are gated and dogs are not allowed, so most people walk around the outside with their dogs...
What are some things you miss the most about where you came?:
I miss the dog friendliness.
If you had to relocate your pet(s) all over again, what would you do differently?:
I might give my dog some medication to help him sleep on the plane. The jury is still out on that...so many conflicting viewpoints.
What was the best/worst part of your pet relocation?:
Air France direct flight was the best - excellent airline. The Air France Crew greeted me and my dog while checking in and said they would be aware of him during the trip. The crew checked-in on me during the flight and assured me my dog was ok in cargo. The worst part of the move was me worrying the entire time, seeing my dog looks so disoriented at the airport, sitting on a wet bed in Paris.
How long do you plan to stay in your new country?:
I had planned on staying here forever, because I do not want to move my dog again. I felt it was too upsetting for both of us. If I do have to move back, I would use Air France direct flight again.
Any other suggestions or helpful tips for pet owners living in your new country?:
There is a park in the 15th arrondissement that allows dogs off-leash, although I have never been there myself. I recommend all dog owners move near the Eiffel Tower, for sure. Most dog friendly part of the city.
