Yesterday, our EU specialist wrote a great blog entry about Moving Birds to the EU.  It was a rather timely post, given the fact that he was in the middle of moving one very white bird, named "Tara," from Los Angeles, California to Geneva, Switzerland.

There seem to be two different mindsets about moving with parrots internationally.  There are the people who don't think it requires anything more than a simple health certificate, and the people who think it might be impossible.  The truth of the matter is that while moving parrots is not impossible, it can be very difficult and requires a large helping of time, resources and -- if you're hiring a professional service -- money.

We've moved several birds - one African Grey to Singapore and then back to the US, another from Washington, D.C. to Vietnam.  We've even moved a couple of cockatiels to Switzerland before!  This bird, an Umbrella Cocktoo or a Cacatua alba, was also a CITES Appendix II species so it required several months of preparatory paperwork.  You can read about the process in our specialist's blog about shipping birds.

But after all that work, there's nothing better than having a parrot arrive safely and clear customs without any issues, and having a picture of the happy parrot sent to us!
