Below is a picture of Scout. Scout is a young miniature schnauzer who I assisted with transport to Hawaii.
Transporting an animal to Hawaii, although not as involved as International transport, carries a few more requirements than simply transporting him or her within the mainland. Hawaii is considered rabies free and as such has law and regulation in place to keep it that way. With the proper planning and foresight, transporting an animal to Hawaii can be very simple, it just takes a little time and patience. Scout's owners started off on the right foot by doing the research and planning well before the anticipated arrival date. For help on getting started yourself, our Hawaii Pet Import page is a great place to start.
The information contained there will help get you moving in the right direction for preparing your pet to enter Hawaii. Now Hawaii does require a 120 Day quarantine period for cats and dogs entering the state, but don't let that frighten you. By starting the process well in advance you can actually complete this quarantine period in your own home. For more information, questions, or simply just to pick somebody's brain, feel free to give me a call at 877-PET-MOVE. I would be happy to go over the process you. Until then, aloha!
Thanks again, Lianne, for the coffee & the candies. ;)
Oh, don't forget about the party. And my dog Hollis' Dogster page.
