Today, South Korean customs announced a new regulation for pets due to Pneumonic plague. This is the first restriction South Korea has imposed for bringing pets as a carry on or excess baggage.

Effective today, 11 August 2009, South Korea will not accept any pets as a carry on or as excess baggage.

Our agent in South Korea reports that this initially was only for pets coming from China however as of this morning they have started to prohibit pets as a carry on or excess baggage from all countries.

All overseas travelers bringing pets to Korea must ship pets as a manifested cargo only.  If you have plans to travel to South Korea with your pet, please call the airline you had planned to fly for more details.
