Geography
The resort city of Sochi stretches for 145 km along the Black Sea coast. The warm sea and the nearby Main Caucasian Range have formed in this land of Russia a unique climate of humid subtropics, which is not typical of this latitude elsewhere on the globe. The highest summits reaching 2,500-2,000 m are found in Adler (a district of Sochi). This natural barrier shields the coast from cold continental air. Further on, in the north-west region of Tuapse, the mountain range narrows and becomes flatter, with summits reaching 300-800m above sea level. And even further, in Anapa region, there are no mountains. This relief accounts for the Mediterranean climate and cold north-east storms rushing in winter into Tuapse - Anapa coastal area as well as into the South Coast of the Crimea, while the sea resort region of Sochi (from Lazarevskoye to Adler) protected by mountains is a land of humid subtropics.

Climate
Due to the warm climate, four seasons can hardly be specified in Sochi. Actually there are only two seasons here â the warm period from May till October, and a cooler period from November till April. Sochiâs âwinterâ is mild, with no frosts, and snow is a rare surprise here. On such extraordinary occasions when it snows the snow lasts only for 2 or 3 days. The average temperature in January is +5ÂșĂ +6ÂșĂ. Yet in March the amount of sunshine allows holidaymakers to take sun baths and get the sun tan. The heat of Summer is moderated by cool breezes and âfansâ â the mild winds coming from the valleys in the mountains.
Clear, cloudless weather is typical of Sochiâs summers, the average temperature in July is +22ÂșĂ +23ÂșĂ. Autumn months are dry, warm, and the âvelvet seasonâ lasts long. The average temperature in September is +19,8Âș, in October +15,9Âș, in November +11,8Âș. Sochiâs weather is beneficial for health practically in any season.  The warm seaside climate is good for rich flora too. Sochi is a land of 6 thousand species of flowers, trees and shrubs. The area has turned to be a perfect place for many imported plants to grow: tea, persimmon, mushmula, feijoa, citrus plants. In the coastal zone and at the foot of the mountains there are Colkhis forests of many relict forms. Sochi is the only region in Russia that survived the Ice age, so groves of yew and boxwood trees grow in wild here. This is the only Russian city where palms decorate streets, not greenhouses, and the sights of blooming magnolia trees can be enjoyed only in Sochi!
While on the other sides of the nearby mountains in winter there are severe frosts, in Sochi it only rains, trees are green, flowers bloom. This only Russian city of humid subtropics has always excited guests.
By its extraordinary variety of curative factors Sochi is unbeatable in the world. Whereas the US, French, Italian, Turkish and other resorts on the globe offer only leisure holidays, Sochi has much more to offer. Catering for our guestsâ health recreation, we turn on a generous supply of natural resources. The curative properties of our climate are applied to the utmost in health resort programs at âRusâ, as we have developed all proper conditions for intensifying the effect of natural factors by advanced spa-methods. The âRusâ resort is a destination for comfortable pleasant and meaningful rest. This is where Sochi holidays comply with the worldâs best standards of spa resort services and the best hospitality traditions!Â
