SLOVAKIA PET IMPORT RULES AND REQUIREMENTS

1) Microchip:  Each Pet shall be identified by means of a microchip.  No other form of identification is acceptable. The microchip used should comply with ISO Standard 11784 or Annex A to ISO standard 11785- otherwise the pet will need to be sent with it’s own scanner attached to the top of the crate.

2) All animals need to have Full Vaccinations:

Dogs:  Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Leptospirosis, (DHLPP) and Rabies within the last 12 months or a minimum of 4 weeks before arrival.

Cats:  Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia (FVRCP), and Rabies within the last 12 months or a minimum of 4 weeks before arrival. 

3) EU Vet Health Certificate (Form EC#: 998): (Form provided to you by PetRelocation.com) – This is the standard Health Certificate to be filled out by your accredited Veterinarian.  This certificate is valid for 4 months prior to departure date so do not get this issued too early.

4) USDA Endorsement:  The below referenced forms:

• Microchip Implantation Record
• Rabies Certificate
• Vet Letter
• EU Vet Health Certificate

Must be sent to your local USDA for their stamp of approval.  Please contact your PetRelocation.com representative on the best way of handling this.

5)  International Health Certificate:  Your vet should have these in stock.  It’s a good idea to call ahead and ask.  This is an international health certificate that needs to be completed by your vet within 10 days of departure.  Depending on the logistics of your particular pet relocation and the specific health certificate being used (APHIS Form 7001) an additional USDA Endorsement maybe required on this health certificate.  Speak to your PetRelocation.com specialist regarding the USDA portion of this process.

6)  All original documentation must travel with the pets.

Geography

It is located in Central Europe, south of Poland .The Geographical coordinates are  48 40 N, 19 30 E .It has the total area of 48,845 sq km including land area of 48,800 sq km and water of 45 sq km Border countries are Austria 91 km, Czech Republic 215 km, Hungary 515 km, Poland 444 km, Ukraine 90 km .  The primary feature of Slovakia is the fact that it is landlocked. Slovakia is located precisely in the central region of Europe. Because of this, Slovakia is termed as the "Country at the Heart of Europe". The country has five immediate political neighbors. They are Hungary to the south; Austria to the southwest; CzechRepublic to the northwest; Poland to the north; and Ukraine to the east. The country of Slovakia is a typically landlocked Alpine country which is divided into 8 provinces. In fact, more than a third of the country comprises of mountains. Other elevated land forms like plateaus too mark the landscape of the country.

Some of the important mountains of the country are the OreMountains, the Carpathian Mountains and the Tatra Mountains; in fact, it is in the Tatra Mountains that Slovakia's highest point is to be found - it is known as the GerlachPeak. The base of all these mountains and plateaus subside to form the plains and lowlands. The chief of the plains is the DanubeRiver plain, as it is also the most fertile region in the country. Aside of the DanubeRiver, the other important rivers are Hornad, Hron, Morava and Vah.

Climate

being landlocked, Slovakia has distinctly demarcated climatic conditions. In general, though, the country has a continental type of climate. The summers are generally warm and humid, but pleasant nevertheless, while the winter are cold, cloudy and record immense precipitation in the form of snowfall. However, the dampness prevails throughout the winters. The summer months last from May to September, while the winter months fall between October and April. The average temperature in the summers is around 26°C; and in winters, the temperature remains at an average of 0°C to -1°C. Another feature of the country is that though the summers are equally pleasant throughout the country, winter chills vary depending on the landscape. So, it is colder up on the mountains and plateaus than in the plains.
