Surprise! Rosie the Puppy Travels to Dubai

By Pet Relocation | November 10th, 2009

A few months ago, we were contacted by Vicky, who was wanting to purchase a Cairn Terrier puppy in the United States to send to Dubai as a surprise for her daughter Daisy.  Her friend in Dubai also wanted to purchase a puppy from the same breeder.  Vicky was quickly finding out that moving puppies to Dubai isn't always the easiest thing.  Pets must be at least 4 months of age to allow for adequate rabies vaccination time.

Moving a pet rabbit from Kenya to Dubai

By Pet Relocation | September 29th, 2009

Name: Ruhi
Moving From: Kenya
Moving To: Dubai
Question: Can my rabbit travel by air?  If yes, how much does it cost and what's the procedure?

Rabbits can be difficult to ship internationally due to the fact that many countries are concerned about infectious diseases.  However, when traveling to the UAE, your rabbit would need to have a blood test (Titre test) prior to departure.  You will also need to apply for an import permit.

Relocating Dogs to United Arab Emirates

What Type of Pets Do You Have?:

How was your experience finding pet care in your new country?:
I was looking for a place to board my dog when I go on vacation, and it was very difficult. The price is not what concerns me really, it was the thought of leaving my dog in a kennel for at least a month. When I asked about the kennels here at the vet, I found out that the cages are fairly small, and the animals receive no play time and minimal out time. So I started pet sitting here. I just want to make people aware that there is an alternative to boarding their pets in a kennel, and also, that pet sitters offer more love, attention, and personal care. This is especially important when people are planning on being gone for long periods of time. Most people living here vacation once a year and are gone for at least one month, some people are gone for 3 months and more. That is too much time to leave an animal in a cage at the boarding facilities here. My website is www.abudhabipetsitter.com

What Type of Pets Do You Have?:
Dogs
How was your experience finding pet care in your new country?:
Pet care in Abu Dhabi UAE is difficult. Vets and especially boarding/grooming are difficult to find. We located two. One is British Vetinary Center - good but expensive and usually accommodation is always taken up in advance. We located NATIONAL VETERINARY HOSPITAL at vetyhosp@emirates.net.ae = email address. Tel = 971-2-446-1628 , Fax = 971-2-446-2548, Mobile = 971-050-446-4910, Ask for Dr. Anwar Shahed, He takes cats, dogs and falcons and provides boarding and grooming. He is located conveniently on 17th Street just off of Airport Road across from the mosque

Relocating DOGS & Cats to United Arab Emirates

What Type of Pets Do You Have?:
DOGS & Cats
How was your experience finding pet care in your new country?:
The vet here is great, they offer dog obedience classes for the dogs and they are great with the cats. Pet food can be purchased at any of the grocery stores just like in the states. The meds you can get thru the vets offices. Dogs are a little harder to take out due to the religion. You have to keep the dogs close to you at all times, as the Muslims believe that they are dirty animals. At least that is what we have been told.

Relocating CAT to United Arab Emirates

What Type of Pets Do You Have?:
CAT
How was your experience finding pet care in your new country?:
This was all rather easy (vet, food, etc.). Dubai has only a couple of hotels/extended stays that allow cats. Plus, with the steady schedule of conferences, finding a room here can often be a nightmare. So, I suggest to research and book very early if you want your pet to stay with you while in temporary housing. We’ve never been comfortable boarding our cats, so we were lucky to have another company employee offer to house Taylor, our cat.
