World's Smallest Horse Born [VIDEO]

April 27th, 2010
By Pet Relocation, admin

This week, the world's smallest horse, a little colt named Einstein, was born in New Hampshire. This video is too cute for words!

Here are some fun horse facts:

Einstein, a miniature horse, was 14 inches tall at birth and weighs 6 pounds

The current record holder is Thumbelina, a 17-and-a-half-inch tall chestnut mare (check out this cute video of Thumbelina).

A baby horse (under a year old) is called a foal.  A male foal is called a colt.  A female foal is called a filly.  A year old horse is called a yearling.

Horses are measured in "hands" which is 4 inches (or the width of your hand!).  You measure horses from the ground to their withers (the highest point where their necks meet their backs).

A horse is any animal over 14.2 hands high.  However, miniature horses retain characteristics of horses (instead of ponies) so they are considered horses instead.
