Kuala Lumpur Animal Quarantine Station (KLAQS) Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the KLAQS located?

KLAQS is located at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang:

Animal Quarantine & Import Export Control Complex

KL InternationalAirport (KLIA), Sepang

Jalan Pekeliling 4

64050 Sepang Selangor

Can I visit my pet(s) during their stay in quarantine? Who else is allowed to visit?

Owners and anyone authorized by the owners are allowed to visit the pets daily between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Visitors are advised to strictly observe all rules and regulations of the quarantine station. Each visit is preceded with signing in at the quarantine station office and picking up a visitor tag.

If you plan on having someone other than your family members visit your pet(s), please let your PetRelocation Coordinator know in advance so they can inform KLAQS.

What are the accommodations like?

Dogs are rotated between two enclosures—a 40m indoor area and a covered outdoor area of a similar size. There is a strip of land around these enclosures where a quarantined dog can be let out to run around. There is also a very modern cattery where cats stay.

All enclosures are cleaned once a day.

Please note that the facilities are not air-conditioned, but you may supply a fan for your pet. Again, feel free to speak to your PetRelocation Coordinator about the options available to you.

Can my pet(s) be fed their own food? Can I send along food?

You may send 1-2 servings of food along with your pet(s). This is for feeding at any connections they might have along the way. The food must be dry food and placed in a resealable bag and attached securely to the top or side of the crate with feeding instructions.

For their stay in quarantine, the KLAQS will provide food or can accommodate special food and medication requirements as long as the food is available for purchase in Malaysia. Please let your Coordinator know what type of food your pet requires and they will be able to look into having it purchased.

Please also let your PetRelocation Coordinator know the exact feeding instructions for your pets so they can let the KLAQS employees know.

Why can't I handle the dog back to Malaysia now? Must be completed by the agent

By Maegan at PetRelocation on August 6, 2018 at 3:04 pm

Hi Alston! Your dog's import permit is required for entry and would be difficult to do from afar. The government in Malaysia does not accept import permit applications via email or mail. Someone on the ground in Malaysia must obtain it for you. Here are the requirements to moving your pup to Malaysia. If we can assist in any way, please fill out our arrange a move form here. Hope this helps!

Hi, considering moving from Canada to Malaysia and bringing my dog. I have heard that some countries allow you to do the quarantine at home? is this possible with Malaysia?Thank you, Jay

By Maegan at PetRelocation on July 20, 2018 at 1:09 pm

Hi Jay! Unfortunately, all pets must go into the government run quarantine in Malaysia. If you are looking for a company like ours to help with the trip, please let us know!

My husband and I have to move to Malaysia from Thailand soon. Our three cats were supposed to travel with us, but recently we were informed about the embargo for pets coming from Thailand due to rabies cases in Thailand. Do we have to provide Blood Test Certificates (issued by special rabies laboratory) to Malaysia border now? What would you suggest as a solution?

Im going to KL for a few months from Swiss with my mini terrier (fully vaccinated) my main concern that she will get scared and depressed due to long quarantine. Could you pls send me details of quarantine time and cost please Thank you.

By Christina at PetRelocation on February 5, 2018 at 1:20 pm

Hi Celeste,

Thanks for your question! The required quarantine time in Kuala Lumpur is seven days. Most pets are largely unaffected by quarantine—we move a lot of pets that must go through this process and many of their owners are surprised by how well they do! For pricing, please contact the Animal Quarantine Station at the number listed above. Happy travels!

Hi dear, thanks for the info share! Would like to check if we’re going to Norway for a dog sport competition, when we’re back to Malaysia, do we need to go through the quarantine? Would they be able to accept quarantine waiver from the organisers if they’re able to provide me with one? We will be going for a period of 3 weeks.

By Christina at PetRelocation on February 5, 2018 at 9:53 am

Hi Song!

Thanks for your question. You will need to fulfill the import requirements for both Norway and Malaysia, which will require a seven-day quarantine upon return to Malaysia. It’s always suggested to contact the authorities in each destination country to confirm all of the current import requirements. Hope this helps!
