Kuala Lumpur Animal Quarantine Station (KLAQS) Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the KLAQS located?

KLAQS is located at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang:

Animal Quarantine & Import Export Control Complex

KL InternationalAirport (KLIA), Sepang

Jalan Pekeliling 4

64050 Sepang Selangor

Can I visit my pet(s) during their stay in quarantine? Who else is allowed to visit?

Owners and anyone authorized by the owners are allowed to visit the pets daily between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Visitors are advised to strictly observe all rules and regulations of the quarantine station. Each visit is preceded with signing in at the quarantine station office and picking up a visitor tag.

If you plan on having someone other than your family members visit your pet(s), please let your PetRelocation Coordinator know in advance so they can inform KLAQS.

What are the accommodations like?

Dogs are rotated between two enclosures -- a 40m indoor area and a covered outdoor area of a similar size. There is a strip of land around these enclosures where a quarantined dog can be let out to run around. There is also a very modern cattery where cats stay.

All enclosures are cleaned once a day.

Please note that the facilities are not air-conditioned, but you may supply a fan for your pet. Again, feel free to speak to your PetRelocation Coordinator about the options available to you.

Can my pet(s) be fed their own food? Can I send along food?

You may send 1-2 servings of food along with your pet(s). This is for feeding at any connections they might have along the way. The food must be dry food and placed in a resealable bag and attached securely to the top or side of the crate with feeding instructions.

For their stay in quarantine, the KLAQS will provide food or can accommodate special food and medication requirements as long as the food is available for purchase in Malaysia. Please let your Coordinator know what type of food your pet requires and they will be able to look into having it purchased.

Please also let your PetRelocation Coordinator know the exact feeding instructions for your pets so they can let the KLAQS employees know.

I am going on vacation from New York to Kuala Lumpur, and I want to bring my emotional support dog with me. I will be staying for 30 days and then returning home. Does my dog have to go into quarantine, or will we be okay upon arrival at KLIA? She prevents me from having panic attacks so I can't be without her for very long.Thank you and hope to hear back soon.

Hi Lily, thank you for reaching out.

We move pets via cargo and unfortunately don't have experience moving emotional support dogs, so we recommend reaching out directly to Malaysia authorities to find out what your options are. Here is a link that may help.

Hopefully this leads you in the right direction! If you have further questions for us, feel free to let us know. Good luck!

Hi We are a veterinary clinic in Tehran , Iran. Our customer would like to travel to Australia with her dog ASAP.. We have done Rabies titration in Uk and all injections and documentation due to Australian import animals rules and condition here in Tehran . However we believe that officially this dog must stay 45 days in Malaysia and then she can fly to Australia. Could you show us pensions veterinary clinics due to the matter in Malaysia where pension and all examinations and treatments could be done to get export permit before her shipment to Australia . Looking forward to hearing you Amir

Hi dear I leaving Malaysia with my shih tzu dog I want travel to Budapest for 1 months with my pet May i know after I back from Budapest with my pets is it any quarantine for my pets or no can I know about rules thanks for guiding me Regard

By on September 19, 2017 at 10:15 am

Hello Marya, thanks for the question!

All pets entering Malaysia must go to quarantine, unless they are entering from a "scheduled" country (like the UK). This means your dog would require quarantine upon re-entry into Malaysia from Budapest.

I hope this helps, Marya! Good luck with your travels ahead.
