Pet Travel Question: Snub-Nosed Breeds

UPDATE: As of December 2011, Continental is now United airlines. The airline still operates a PetSafe program and longer accepts English Bulldogs older than six months of age or who weigh more than 20 lbs. Please check with the airline or with PetRelocation if you have any questions about flying snub-nosed breeds.

Hi PetRelocation,

The airlines that I checked do not accept bulldogs and other similar dogs with the flat face, and the dog is too big to fit under the seat. Is there an airline that does not have this restriction for a trip from Miami to San Juan, Puerto Rico? Thanks.

Hi Ana,

Thank you for contacting us with your question! Flat-nosed breeds present particular challenges when it comes to relocating, but if done carefully and intelligently, safe moves are possible to most destinations.

We often choose to fly with pet-friendly Continental airlines. They do fly snub-nosed breeds but impose certain restrictions (for example they don't fly bulldogs during the summer months), and have proven to demonstrate a high level of care and attention. Check with them if you've yet to do so, and read more about flying with snub-nosed breeds on our blog.

Good luck with your pet move to Puerto Rico, and please contact us if you have any more questions or if you'd like some help carrying out your move!
