Pet Travel Advice: Shipping Dogs to Kenya

What Documents Does a Dog Need to Enter Kenya?

Dear PetRelocation,

My little dog, who weighs 7 kg and already has his vaccinations up-to-date, has also has been microchipped.

Although Kenyan airways agreed to fly him when we checked in with him (he was mentioned on my husband's ticket) they refused him entry so we have flown out without him. We have had conflicting advice from various sources, including the Kenyan embassy in Paris.

Could you tell me what documents our dog needs to enter Kenya, what airlines would be prepared to fly him, and in what section of the plane??

Thank you very much,

Geraldine M.

Bonjour Geraldine,

Sorry to hear about the issues you've experienced. Pet travel can definitely be complicated and we hope we can assist.

As far as entry into Kenya, here is some detailed information about import permits (including a contact number). Did Kenyan Airlines give you a reason for denying entry?

Since there has been some confusion and since policies can sometimes change, we'd recommend contacting the various airlines that fly into Kenya and finding out about rules and restrictions directly from airline representatives. You may also want to find a local agent there to help you with importing your dog -- we recommend using IPATA.org to search for a reputable agent.

If you need further help with the logistics of your move and would like to enlist our professional assistance you can contact us for a consultation or give us a call at 1-877-PET-MOVE.

Good luck and safe travels!
