How to tell if your pet's travel crate is big enough for flying

We got these pictures of Cleo today, who we're pet moving from Nuremberg, Germany to Lynchburg, Virginia.  Sometimes when a customer is having a hard time determining whether their crate is big enough, we'll have them send us pictures so we can determine whether it will work for their pet's flight.  At first glance, her crate looks like it is probably tall enough for her.  But upon closer inspection, it's clear she's going to need a little more leg room for a big trip like this!

Cleo's paws are touching the end of the crate, even when she's sitting as far back as she can go.  Wouldn't you want more room to stretch your legs on a long flight?

While the crate might look tall enough for Cleo when she's standing outside of it...

When she's in the crate, her head is almost having to touch the top and she's unable to stand up fully.  This might work for a domestic flight, but for international pet travel, crates need to be at least 2-4 inches higher over the top of your pet's head.

Cleo will be getting a roomier crate for her big trip so she can travel first class all the way!

What about when the pet is traveling UNDER the seat?

Great question, Taylor!  We'll do a post about that.
