Are you planning to move to Italy with your pets?! Many of our customers tell us that Italy is a great place for expatriates and all who are living in Italy, to enjoy with their pets! Especially with the family dog in tow!
We are even told that there is a famous grocery store that sells big bags of pasta, made especially for dogs! Rome, as with most major cities, is very pet friendly and it is likely that across from the ruins where Julius Caesar was killed, at one of the busiest intersections in the city, a dog shelter will set up its mobile adoptions. Just like the Italian people, the dogs of Rome coexist among the spectacular chaos of modern life in an ancient city.
Rome is so full of historical sights that perhaps its a good idea to consider accommodation that offers self-catering as well as an on site restaurant for those nights that you just canҒt be bothered leaving the hotel. Whether you need to stay for a short break or longer, why not look at some of the premiere pet friendly caravan parks, apartments or hotels in the area?
For camping or a self-contained cabin why not try Village Roma which is located close to Romes best attractions or Roma Flash which has itҒs own direct access to a stunning Italian lake (pic above) with lots of water sports to keep you busy? Both of these parks are pet friendly and ensure that every member of the family will have a great time.
The Eternal city is one of the most historical places of interest in the whole of Europe and to experience this amazing city along with your furry companion will be one that you will never forget no matter when you decide to go! Dont forget to buy a couple of flavorsome gelati ice-creams to enjoy; one for you and one for your best mate.
Remember, before moving or shipping your pets to Italy you will want to make sure that you follow their pet import rules:
ITALY IMPORT RULES AND REQUIREMENTS
1) Microchip: Each Pet shall be identified by means of a microchip. No other form of identification is acceptable. The microchip used should comply with ISO Standard 11784 or Annex A to ISO standard 11785- otherwise the pet will need to be sent with itҒs own scanner attached to the top of the crate.
2) All animals need to have Full Vaccinations:
Dogs: Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Leptospirosis, (DHLPP) and Rabies within the last 12 months or a minimum of 4 weeks before arrival.
Cats: Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia (FVRCP), and Rabies within the last 12 months or a minimum of 4 weeks before arrival.
3) EU Vet Health Certificate (Form EC#: 998) This is the standard Health Certificate to be filled out by your accredited Veterinarian. This certificate is valid for 4 months prior to departure date so do not get this issued too early.
4) USDA Endorsement: The below referenced forms:
* Microchip Implantation Record
* Rabies Certificate
* Vet Letter
* EU Vet Health Certificate
Must be sent to your local USDA for their stamp of approval.
4. International Health Certificate: Your vet should have these in stock. It֒s a good idea to call ahead and ask. This is an international health certificate that needs to be completed by your vet within 10 days of departure. Depending on the logistics of your particular pet relocation and the specific health certificate being used (APHIS Form 7001) an additional USDA Endorsement maybe required on this health certificate.
5. All original documentation must travel with the pets.
Happy Pet Travels!
