Italy's capital city, Rome is the sparkling jewel of Italy, beckoning those with a thirst for history as well as offering a thriving metropolis filled to overflowing with lively shops, stylish boutiques, cafes and bars. Everyone knows that Rome wasnt built in a day! As one would expect sightseeing in Rome is both exhilarating and exhausting; so do pack some comfy shoes as you will be on your feet discovering the delights of this world famous travel destination. Taking the family pet with you? No problem; just be sure to have plenty of water, some healthy treats and hopefully the stamina to keep up with your four legged friend as you discover Rome together!

Pet friendly days out and attractions:

There are lots and lots of churches, museums, statues and fountains in and around Rome as well as the Vatican; so one of the best ways to see Rome is by foot or bike. A leisurely stroll around at Villa Doria Pamphili; a terrific park in Rome just south of the Vatican and then a relaxing soak in the thermal springs near Viterbo, just 90km (55mi) north of Rome is a perfect way to sooth those tired muscles after traipsing around all day from one monument to another!

The Colosseum: This is a must see icon where crowds of bloodthirsty spectators gathered to watch gladiators kill each other countless years ago. DonҒt forget the nearby Roman Forum with its important ruins.

Time Elevator: You and the family may have to do this one without your dogs company but it is an exciting educational panoramic presentation outlining the 3000 years of Roman history, from Romolus and Remus up to today and well worth visiting.

Of course thereҒs lots more sight seeing like the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica which could keep you in Rome for weeks; but how about a day trip to the beach or hire a car and escape the city for a lovely drive in to the nearby countryside.

And now to the food!

For a traditional real home-made 'cucino romano' Roman dining experience, like-a-mama-used-a-to-make-a visit a trattoria; it'll be a dining experience you'll never forget. It may resemble a soup kitchen rather than a fine dining restaurant, but the food is absolutely superb! Your well behaved pooch will be more than welcome in many, and will appreciate the delicious tasty fare and aroma wafting in from the tiny kitchen!

Do try authentic Italian pizza when visiting as these are so much healthier, and you can really taste the freshness and subtle flavors of the region; but dont let your dog stand guard over the food! Bon appetite!

Rome is so full of historical sights that perhaps itҒs a good idea to consider accommodation that offers self-catering as well as an on site restaurant for those nights that you just cant be bothered leaving the hotel. Whether you need to stay for a short break or longer, why not look at some of the premiere pet friendly caravan parks, apartments or hotels in the area?

For camping or a self-contained cabin why not try Village Roma which is located close to RomeҒs best attractions or Roma Flash which has its own direct access to a stunning Italian lake with lots of water sports to keep you busy? Both of these parks are pet friendly and ensure that every member of the family will have a great time.

Finally; the Eternal city is one of the most historical places of interest in the whole of Europe and to experience this amazing city along with your furry companion will be one that you will never forget no matter when you decide to go!
