Petrelocation.com - This is your Wednesday afternoon Pets in the Headlines news brief -- some of the best breaking pet transport news across the internet!

  • In California over the weekend, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill that would have banned pets from riding in their owners lap while driving, saying there are more important bills to pay attention to. Critics of the bill said that government should not dictate who sits in their lap be it dog, cat, or some other species! According to California Highway Patrol statistics, four people were killed and 346 others were injured in collisions from 2001 to 2007 due to driver inattention caused by an animal (it is unknown where the pet was located in the vehicle at the time of the crashes). • If you're renting an apartment and have pets, you might want to think about Denver or Tampa for your next relocation. An internal study of search traffic done by apartment-finder MyNewPlace revealed that the two cities had approximately ten percent more searches for pet-friendly apartment than did the average city with more than 50,000 quarterly "pets ok" searches. In Tampa, 66 percent of apartments allow cats and 54 percent allow dogs. Renters looking for pet friendly Denver apartments will find that 74 percent allow cats and 62 percent allow dogs, according to MyNewPlace's press release. It sounds like Denver's a pretty pet-friendly city, and a lot of people are thinking about renting there with their pets!
  • Is your pet dressing up for Halloween? According to a PetSmart survey hitting the news today, one in 10 pet owners dressed their pets up for Halloween last year. The most popular last year, witch and princess costumes, will likely be popular again this year. New exclusive costumes include a bumble bee, a cow and a mail man (the irony!). They also offer a mouse costume for our feline friends -- spooky!
