Last week, we asked our Facebook friends and blog readers to suggest names for our co-founders, Kevin and Angie O'Brien's, new 8 week-old Mastiff puppy!
We got so many great names, it was hard to pick just one winner. Runner up was Duke, which we tried out for a few days before someone put "-ie" on the end of it and we decided maybe...not.
So what did we finally pick? Well, it was actually our CEO's mom who came up with the name. Click "Read More" to find out the puppy's new name!
Hint: It's Irish.

Puppy Tweets lets your pup go online! Here's a fun new product - Puppy Tweets, a small device that goes on your dog's collar that allows him or her to dispatch tweets from the doghouse!
From the CNNMoney article:
Puppy Tweets is a plastic tag with a sound and motion sensor that you attach to your pet's dog collar and connect its USB receiver to your computer. Then you create a Twitter account for your dog and enjoy updates all day from Sparky or whatever its name is on your computer or smartphone.
The pre-programmed tweets will be based on your dog's actions -- or lack thereof. For example, if your dog spends most of his day napping, you might get an update about him being tired. If he's running around barking, a tweet about barking will be sent out based on the noise he's making.
Seems pretty cool, or at least like a good party trick! I think my cat @ChubbyCharles might want one! In the meantime, is your dog following PetRelocation on Twitter? Click here to start following!
One of our specialists was recently lucky enough to get to visit the American Airlines Pet Relief Area at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport (check out our previous post on the topic - American Airlines Opens New "Pet Relief" Area at JFK Airport) and chat a bit with the American Airlines staff. Cara, one of our International Pet Relocation Specialists, was transporting a very small Chihuahua named Mocha from New York to Tokyo.

The American Airlines Facilities Manager, Joseph Daly, took some time to talk with us about the new facility. We got tons of great video footage that we'll be releasing soon in a special miniseries on traveling with pets. In the meantime, here some interesting facts we picked up:
Over the weekend, our co-founders Kevin and Angie O'Brien got a new 8 week old Mastiff puppy. Since they were having trouble coming up a name for him, we decided to see if any of our pet-loving readers and friends might have an idea. Leave your name suggestions in the comments below or on our Facebook page!
Can you think of a name for this big pup?

oday marks the beginning of National Pet Dental Health Month, an effort by the AVMA to raise awareness about periodontal (gum) disease in pets, which is the number one most diagnosed disease in dogs and cats. By the age of just two, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have some form of periodontal disease.
As part of Pet Dental Health Month, the AVMA is asking for photo submissions of YOUR pet's pearly white teeth. They can be submitted and showcased through their Pearly White Pets Flickr group.
For more details on how you can help keep your pet's teeth clean and shiny, check out the Pet Dental website sponsored by Hill's.
The Daily Dish has a couple of great stories up this week, one about the stray dogs who have learned how to move around the city of Moscow by riding trains.

[Animal specialist Andrei] Neuronov says there are some 500 strays that live in the metro stations, especially during the colder months, but only about 20 have learned how to ride the trains. This happened gradually, first as a way to broaden their territory. Later, it became a way of life. “Why should they go by foot if they can move around by public transport?” he asks.
“They orient themselves in a number of ways,” Neuronov adds. “They figure out where they are by smell, by recognising the name of the station from the recorded announcer’s voice and by time intervals. If, for example, you come every Monday and feed a dog, that dog will know when it’s Monday and the hour to expect you, based on their sense of time intervals from their biological clocks.”
There has been quite a bit of talk about the stray situation in Moscow. While some pets live like kings and queens, others are cast aside on the streets. Many expats who relocate to Moscow and Russia have a difficult time with the adjustment. For details on moving dogs and cats to Russia, check out our Russia pet import requirements. We also have a great firsthand account from a past customer who moved with dogs to Russia.
What do a doggie day care, buying domains and a dog named Bandit have in common?
They're all part of the winning combination of PetRelocation.com's worldwide pet travel service, explains the Austin Business Journal in this week's feature about PetRelocation.com co-founders Kevin and Angie O'Brien.

One of the attendees at today's Social Media Breakfast event asked us if we'd ever moved a unicorn. While our CEO finds himself hauling his daughter's stuffed unicorn around, PetRelocation.com mainly sticks to horn-less equines.
We're currently working on the logistics for a horse move from our hometown of Austin, Texas to the United Kingdom. Horses can be complicated creatures, particularly due to their size and their very delicate personalities which can make them difficult to ship. For these moves, it helps to have a former barn manager on staff (me!) -- I can answer all of the tricky hosre-related questions like "What's a Hanoverian?" and "What does 'hands' mean?"
Horse transportation to the UK is a pretty specific process. The following steps are typically required:
While we spend most of our time dreaming up ways to help people travel with their pets, we also like to stay on top of current social media trends. Social media enables us as a company to connect with our clients and their pets. We love tweeting important notices about pet moving, blogging about our Pet move of the Month (as well as about lobsters) and creating album after album on our Facebook of our happy four-legged clients. All of these things make our jobs here that much more important -- and remind us of why it is we do what we do!
So we were thrilled to be asked to speak at the Austin Social Media Breakfast, a group that brings together social media experts and newbies alike to eat, meet, share, and learn. Below are details on tomorrow's event. It's currently sold out but if you can't make it, be sure to catch the live broadcast on UStream beginning at 8:15 AM CST (GMT -6:00).
