How We Won the 2009 Rackspace Fanati Award

By Pet Relocation | March 3rd, 2010

Today PetRelocation.com got some exciting news:  We were named the winner of the 2009 Rackspace Fanati Award for Outstanding Customer Service.  While we've won several awards over the years, this one is pretty special.  Why?  Well, first watch the video and then we'll give you an idea of how much went into it:

First, we had to make a video.  We found out about the award about a week before the deadline, so it required quick-thinking and some serious "fanatical" teamwork on our part to put together something fun that reflected our dedication to customer service.  It just so happened that about a week earlier we received a video one of our customers filmed on their iPhone showing their dog, Dudley, arriving in Hong Kong.  We decided pretty early on that we wanted to make a video that incorporated the clip to show just how important these four-legged clients are and why our customer service has to reflect that.

Atlanta's Pet-Friendly "Poochie" Park! [VIDEO]

By Pet Relocation | February 26th, 2010

A few weeks ago, we wrote about the Ten Most Pet-Friendly Airports for Traveling with Your Pet in the US and listed Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport as one of the top contenders because of its "poochie park."

One of the employees at Atlanta's airport was nice enough to leave a comment with a link to a great video of the poochie park in action and we thought we'd share it with you.  Looks like this pup is having a lot of fun!

An Affordable Option for Pet Owners Forced to Give Up Their Pets

By Pet Relocation | February 23rd, 2010

While one third of pet owners say they would prefer to travel with their pets than their significant other, the recession has not been easy for people facing moving or traveling with their pets due to evictions and foreclosures.  We get several phone calls a day from people who want to relocate their pets, but they simply can't afford to hire a professional service to handle the move.

That's why we've created MyPetRelocation, an affordable alternative for people who want to safely move or travel with their pets.  MyPetRelocation is a straightforward, informative eBook that provides all of the details needed to move your pet in a step-by-step guide.  The book walks you through the process of how to book a pet flight, as well as how to measure your pet's travel crate, what airlines and airports are the best to use and how to arrange your pet's veterinary paperwork. Each section ends with a worksheet so that your pet's travel information is kept all in one convenient place.

It puts your pet's move in your hands, all under $50.

Moving Pets to Angola - Pet Shipping Advice

By Pet Relocation | February 18th, 2010

Angola as seen from the air above Luanda.Angola as seen from the air above Luanda. While Angola may seem like a far off place for pets, we've actually moved three lucky cats from Scotland to Angola and, most recently, from Angola to Cairo, Egypt!

Whether traveling with pets into, or out of, Angola, there will most certainly be hurdles when dealing with Angolan bureaucracy and infrastructure. It’s not overwhelming, but it will save a lot of time going into these pet relocations prepared.

The important thing to realize is that Angola is still a developing, and as such, certain protocols have a tendency to be needlessly obfuscated, not as a means to simply confuse you, but rather due to the fact that a great number of Angolan authorities don’t have the answer to many questions themselves and can often attempt to “pass the buck”.

When importing pets into Angola, we typically only provide Door-to-Port services. While there are cargo agents available in Luanda, they have proven themselves to be rather ineffective and seem to have a habit of making things more difficult than they already are.

Inc. Magazine Discusses Pet Travel Trends with PetRelocation CEO

By Pet Relocation | February 16th, 2010

Last year, we were ranked as one of Inc. Magazine's fastest growing privately owned companies in America.  We're hoping to make the list again this year, and our entry caught the eye of the editors who featured PetRelocation.com as their "Applicant of the Week" this week. Reporter Josh Spiro discussed the rise of pet travel trends with our CEO Kevin O'Brien.

From the write-up:

Kevin O’Brien’s profession might not be the oldest, but it’s up there. “The animal transportation industry has been around since transportation,” he says laughing. That said transporting pets is a much more nascent field, having only taken off in the past five to 10 years. While the company focuses on transporting dogs and cats for corporate employees who relocate for work, its motto is “any pet, anywhere, any time” and so far it hasn’t had to turn down a job.

Last year, Pet Relocation was ranked No. 777 on the Inc. 5000 list and this year, according to O’Brien “we hope to break the 500 barrier.” With a prime domain name and a growing number of people “starting to accept the idea of live animal relocation,” business has never been better.

Micro-Pigs and Not-So-Micro Pig Shipping Requirements

By Pet Relocation | February 15th, 2010

Today we got a request for shipping a micro-pig from the UK to the US.  While these little guys are a whole lot of adorable in a tiny package, they're not easy to move.

Because of swine flu (H1N1) concerns, shipping pigs (no matter how small) requires the shipper to fulfill all of the import requirements for importing swine in to the US.

This includes a sixty-day isolation period prior to export, an import permit from the US, and thirty days' quarantine upon arrival in the US.  Several tests are also required after entry, including tuberculosis and brucellosis tests.

The USDA has a full list of import requirements for shipping pigs to the US.

Or, if you're just here for the micro-pigs, check out this adorable video of Squeaky, a micro-pig at the Little Pig Farm in the UK!
