Before your first pet relocation conversation, gather your route, travel window, each pet's details and any preparation already underway. Separate confirmed arrangements from plans you are still considering. Those details help the conversation focus on workable next steps, the support you need and the questions that could affect your move.
At PetRelocation, we have helped families move pets for more than 20 years. Preparation works best when it connects your household's plans with each pet's individual needs. You can start that conversation before you have every answer.
Write down your departure and destination cities, rather than countries alone. Include where your pet will be staying before departure and where you expect to receive them after arrival.
Then distinguish a preferred date from a fixed deadline. A work start date, the end of a lease and a passenger flight already booked create different planning questions. Explain which dates you can change and which you cannot.
For example, if you leave your current home before your pet can travel, identify who could care for them in the meantime. Raising that question early gives everyone a clearer picture of the arrangements needed.
List each dog's or cat's name, breed or mix, age and approximate weight. Note questions about their health, handling or comfort during travel that you want to discuss. Your veterinarian should address medical suitability for travel.
If you already own a travel crate, record its dimensions and bring any sizing questions. Owning a crate does not establish that it fits your pet or the intended travel arrangements. Accurate measurements are more useful than a product label such as large or extra large.
With several pets, keep individual details separate. One pet's completed preparation does not establish the status of the others.
Copy these prompts into your notes. Write "not decided" where you need help working through an answer.

Keep this worksheet for your conversation. Completing it is optional.
Tell the team whether you have contacted your veterinarian, gathered records or discussed arrangements with an airline or another provider. Describe what was proposed and what was confirmed in writing.
Have records available, then ask how to supply them when needed. A summary of what you hold is enough to start organizing the discussion; avoid guessing dates or document details you can check later.
If you have received an estimate, explain its scope. An airport-to-airport proposal and a home-to-home proposal involve different responsibilities. Our pricing breakdown explains the distinction between professional service fees and outside expenses.
Identify the parts you expect to handle yourself and the parts where you want help. Be specific about questions such as veterinary coordination, collection, arrival arrangements or a change in your own travel dates.
Bring your budget questions too. Ask what information is needed for a useful estimate, which decisions come first and what you should review before making further bookings.
Leave with a short action list: the missing information, who will obtain it and the next decision. You do not need a finished itinerary to have a productive first conversation.
Do I need every detail settled before contacting PetRelocation?
No. Share what you know about your route, pets and travel window, then identify what is undecided. Fixed deadlines and arrangements already booked are especially useful to explain early.
What should I prepare for each pet?
Gather their name, breed or mix, age, approximate weight, crate information and relevant questions. Keep each pet's details separate so you can discuss individual needs and preparation.
Should I book my own flight before discussing my pet's move?
Discuss both plans together when possible. If your flight is already booked, share the itinerary. Your passenger booking does not confirm your pet's eligibility, route or reservation.
Is this worksheet required to request a quote?
No. It is an optional way to organize your notes. You can contact us with the information you have and explain which details you still need to establish.
Tell us about your pet's move and we'll walk you through the options for your route.
