AllExperts Question:  Taking a Puppy to France

Name: Ruth

Subject: Taking puppy to France permanently

Question: I live in France and want to buy a puppy Labrador in the UK.

At what age is the puppy allowed to be brought over by car ?

Answer: Hello Ruth!

It is typically recommended that for puppies, you wait until they are old enough for their first rabies vaccination and are completely weaned off their mother -- about 8-12 weeks old. Since you're coming from a completely rabies free country (the UK), it should be fairly simple to get the puppy into France, especially since you are planning on just driving it across (airlines come with their own set of rules and regulations). So, to answer your question- I'd say wait until the puppy is at least 8-12 weeks old and has had its first rabies vaccination, and you should be good to go.
