Ask The Pet Relocation Expert: Import Rules for France

From: Richmond, VA
To: France
Pet: Ozzy, Dog, Beagle, 3 years, ~25 lbs.

Question: I am in the preliminary stages of considering doing a college student exchange to France next year for one, maybe two, semesters. I do not want to leave my Beagle behind for that long, as I really don't have anyone reliable to leave him with. In fact, whether or not I can take him will determine if I pursue this any further. What would I need to do in order to have him move with me in terms of paperwork? How would the traveling work? I've read that some airlines allow smaller pets to travel in the cabin, so do you know the weight cutoff for that, and how does that work with potty issues? Thanks!

Hello,

Thanks for your question; here are the pet import requirements for moving a dog to France. Ozzy is most likely too big to fly in the cabin, so we recommend choosing a pet-friendly airline that has safe, smart procedures in terms of flying pets in the cargo hold.
