Crossing the Mexico/United States Border with a Pet

Dear PetRelocation,

I will soon be passing with my dog from Mexico into the U.S., but I'm not sure of what I need to have with me in order to bring the dog across the border. The dog has never been in the U.S. and has no American license. What do I need to do to prepare?

Thanks,

Brenda

Hi Brenda,

Thanks for your question, we'd be happy to offer some information. Here are the United States pet import requirements. Essentially you'll need to show proof that your dog has an up to date rabies vaccine and have a health certificate from your vet.

Pet owners crossing the border by car often report differing experiences (sometimes they're thoroughly checked and sometimes they're just waved through without a close look), but it's still a good idea to be prepared for everything and have this paperwork in hand.

Please contact us if you need further assistance, and good luck with the trip!
