How to Arrange Cat Transport to New Zealand

Hi PetRelocation,

How much would it cost to move my cat to New Zealand? I also have a horse I am interested in moving from Phoenix, AZ to Auckland, New Zealand. Could you give me a quote for both?

My dates are very flexible. Probably anywhere in the next 6 months.

Thank you!

Hi Hillary,

Thank you for your question -- we're happy to share some information.

First of all, unfortunately horses cannot be imported to New Zealand from the United States at this time. New Zealand is quite strict when it comes to pets and animals entering the country because of its rabies free status (for example, dogs and cats need to undergo a 10-day quarantine required upon arrival). Here is more about New Zealand's animal import rules.

It is possible to bring cats, however. There is a significant amount of planning that must go into the process, but cats move here safely all the time (here's one example -- Chein, a beautiful cat who moved from Russia to New Zealand).

Pet travel costs vary depending on several factors, including the size of your pet and how much assistance you decide to enlist. If you decided to hire PetRelocation to handle your move, our costs to move a small pet to New Zealand from the United States typically exceed $5,000 USD. This includes overseeing vet work and paperwork, airfare, arranging transportation to and from the airport on either side, quarantine costs, and more. As you'll see, it's not an inexpensive process.

If this sounds like the kind of service you're looking for, you can contact us by phone (1-877-PET-MOVE) or by filling out our online consultation form. Either way, we encourage you to acquaint yourself with New Zealand's pet import rules so that you feel prepared for your upcoming move.

Hope this helps! Again, just let us know if we can be of assistance.
