Moving Pets to Australia: How Long is the Quarantine?

Hi,

Can you please tell me how long my doggies would have to stay in quarantine in Western Australia?

Many Thanks,

Sharon

Hi Sharon,

Sure, we'd be happy to offer some information. The best place to start is the Australia Department of Agriculture website, which should have the most up to date directions regarding which pets are allowed and what the timeline is for their import.

Australia has recently changed its quarantine rules—it used to be a standard 30 day requirement and now it's 10 days. The UK is classified as a Category 3 country, and on the site you'll find a drop-down tool that will outline each step you need to take.

Please let us know if you have any questions about these logistics, Sharon. Here's a link to our free quote form if you'd like to find out more about our door-to-door services.

Thanks for the question, and good luck with everything!

Hi John! Thanks for your question. Because of Australia’s rabies-free status, they require a significant amount of lead up preparation and have a long list of import requirements. A typical move into Australia can take at least 180-days, which begins with the completion of a rabies titer test. Here are the requirements for moving your pups to Australia according to DAFF. It's a long process so if you are looking for a company to help, our team specializes in moves to Australia. Please fill out our Arrange A Move Form here. Thanks!

Hi Carys! In accordance with Australia's Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956, pure breed American pit bull terriers cannot be imported to Australia. However, if she is a mixed breed it may be possible. We suggest that you reach out to the Department of Home Affairs on +61 2 6264 1111 or 131 881 (within Australia). Hope this helps!
