Pet Industry Statistics & Trends: 62% of Households Have Pets

You have pets, your neighbor has pets, your sister's best friend's mom has pets... Does everyone have at least one furry friend in their care these days?

According to the American Pet Products Association's 2010/2011 National Pet Owner's Survey, quite a few of us are living very pet-oriented lives. In case this information is new to you, read on for some survey highlights to see what the pet landscape is looking like these days as well as where it might be going.
 

Pet Ownership
 

  • According to this survey, 62% of U.S. households own a pet, which translates to 72.9 millions homes.
  • In 1988, the first year the survey was conducted, 56% of U.S. households owned a pet as compared to 62% in 2008.
