Pet Parrot Travel to Canada

parrotTransporting Birds to Canada

Hi PetRelocation,

I'm considering moving back to Canada with three pet parrots all aged 10 years old or older.

The date of departure is not yet specified because this fully depends on the release of permit and its effective period (Import Permit from Canada, CITES Import/Export permits, etc.)

Please suggest how long it takes for the whole process. What types of documents are needed to get a quotation? Will there be any impact from the Avian Flu outbreak in Mainland China?

Many thanks,

Margaret

Hi Margaret,

Thank you for your question! Unfortunately, according to the official relevant Canada government website, birds are prohibited from entering Canada from China at this time. Sorry to be the bearer of this bad news -- you're correct that avian influenza is the reason a barrier exists. Several other countries, such as Egypt and India, are not allowed to bring birds into Canada, either.

If you end up deciding to move elsewhere with your birds and would like to learn more about the potential timeline and requirements, please take a look at our guide to international bird travel.

Good luck with everything, Margaret! If you ever find yourself in need of further assistance with pet travel and think we can help, feel free to fill out our online consultation form or give our office a call.
