Dear PetRelocation,

I'm buying a dog from Spain and she will be entering the USA through Canada. The dog has been microchipped and had her rabies shot administered, but now the person in Spain is telling me the dog can't be shipped until a second rabies is administered. Is this correct?

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for your question. First, please review the pet import requirements for the United States. As you'll see, all that is required is an International Health Certificate and proof of an updated rabies vaccine (the US is one of the easiest countries to import a pet).

In light of this information, we must warn you that pet scams are unfortunately common and the situation you're describing sounds a little suspicious. If you're dealing with someone you don't really know, have never seen the dog in real life, and are sending money to someone with increasing demands about what is required, all signs point to this being a scam.

Please look over these puppy scam warning signs and exercise extreme caution. Is the seller accepting money via Western Union or Moneygram? If so, that is almost definitely a scam and we advise cutting off communication (and certainly don't send any money to them).

Good luck with everything, and please let us know if you have any further questions for us.
