Pet Travel Q&A: Flying Pets Unaccompanied Via Cargo

Hi Dear Expert,

I have two Yorkies that I am planning to move to Taiwan to my sister. I have done every inspection and requirements, but I am having a hard time finding an airline that would ship them.

They all require the owner to fly with them, but I cannot fly with them. My sister will be picking them up in Taiwan. I am wondering if is there any way that I can ship them to Taiwan without me going with them?

Thanks,

Min

Hi Min,

Thank you for your question. Choosing the right airline for your pet is certainly an important part of the process and we'd be happy to offer some guidance.

These are our essential pet travel tips -- as you'll see, we often use KLM, Lufthansa, United and British Airways for our clients' pets. In particular, KLM and Lufthansa often work well for our clients moving to Taiwan, and as they travel via cargo, there is no need for the pet owner to be on the same flight.

You may already have done so, but before travel we advise crate training your dog and double checking that all paperwork is in order, and right before the flight be sure your dog has some exercise and begins the trip properly hydrated.

If you think you'd like to hire some assistance with your move, please contact us for a consultation. Otherwise, good luck with everything and have a great pet flight!
