Pet Travel Q&A: New Zealand Pet Quarantine Locations

Hi PetRelocation,

How long and in what location is quarantine necessary for our dog's move to New Zealand? Is a physical location required? If so, for how long? We wish to move from California, USA to Auckland with our small dog.

Thanks,

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Thank you for your inquiry! Moving pets to New Zealand requires that you follow a specific set of steps, and there will be a mandatory minimum 10-day quarantine upon arrival that must be carried out at a designated government facility. As you prepare for the move in the months before departure, your dog is welcome to stay at home with you.

Take a look at the official New Zealand government website to find out more about the pet import process. Specifically, here is the list of approved quarantine facilities in New Zealand -- there are two to choose from in Auckland.

Many pet owners decide to hire assistance when moving to New Zealand, and if you're interested in finding out more about our door-to-door services, you can fill out our online consultation form to connect to a Specialist. For a better idea of what to expect, here's a link to a story detailing a recent pet move to New Zealand.

Hopefully this helps to get you started, Stuart. Just let us know if we can be of further assistance and good luck with everything.
