Pet Travel Question: A Panama Vacation with a Dog?

Name: Joyce
Number of Pets: 1
Pet Type: Dog
Pet Breed: Pomeranian

Hi, I am not moving to Panama but would like to go spend one month there in February, and I would like to bring my small dog. Do I still need to do all the paper work anyway, or do I just need the certificate from my vet and a document listing her shots?

Thanks,
Joyce

Hi Joyce,

Even if you're only staying for a short time, you will need to meet all the import requirements for importing a pet into Panama. In addition to obtaining a health certificate and a rabies certificate, you'll also need to meet certain quarantine requirements (Panama imposes a 40 day quarantine for entering pets, which can be carried out in a government facility or at home).

After taking a look at these rules and regulations you may decide that this just won't work for you and  your dog. Many travelers find it's better to leave their pets with a trusted friend or boarding facility rather than jump through as many hoops as international pet travel often presents.

Please contact us if you have any more questions, Joyce, and good luck with everything!
