Pet travel question: Can Pomeranians move to Saudi Arabia?

Name: Robert

Pet Type: Dog
Pet Breed: Pomeranian
From: Toronto, Canada
To: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

I've read that only hunting, guard and service dogs are allowed into Saudi Arabia, and many breeds are banned, including toy breeds. However, nothing is straightforward in Saudi Arabia or actually fully goes by the book. Have owners been getting away with simply categorizing their dogs as one of these three, or is it enforced? Is there any hope of getting a Pom into the Kingdom? -Robert

Hi Robert,

Saudi Arabia is a unique place to be a dog owner, as it's not particularly pet-friendly and places special constraints on dogs being imported into the country. All dogs entering Saudi Arabia must have paperwork stating that they are "working" dogs - even Pomeranians.

That being said, it's not impossible to bring a small breed into the country. Many pet travelers have had questions about this topic, so we recently outlined the steps you'll need to take to make your move. Take a look at what the process entails and let us know if you have any more questions.

Good luck with your move, Robert, and let us know if you need anything else!
