Pet Travel Question: Cats to Sri Lanka

Name: Rebecca
Number of Pets: 1
Pet Type: Cat
Pet Breed: Domestic Short Hair
From: New York
To: Sri Lanka

Just wanted to verify the requirements for import to Sri Lanka: 1) International health certificate, 2) Two treatments for Dirofilaria, 3) Rabies, Panleuk vaccine > 30 days before leaving, 4) Intestinal dewormer (pyrantel and praziquantal), 5) External parasites (Frontline). The website also listed the cat should be free of any blood parasites. Which blood parasites do they mean?

Thanks,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for your question! Unfortunately it's currently not possible to move a cat directly from the US to Sri Lanka. If you decide to carry out this move, you'll need to first spend about six months in a BSE-free country and then you'll be able to go there. For your information, here's a rundown of the pet import requirements for Sri Lanka from our site. You'll find contact details that will allow you to double check the latest requirements, and your vet can inform you about undergoing tests for blood parasites.

Please contact us if you'd like some help arranging your pet move, Rebecca. Good luck!
