Pet Travel Question: Crossing the Canada/US Border with a Dog

Name: Brittany
Number of Pets: 1
Pet Type: Dog
Pet Breed: Shih Tzu mix
From: Ontario
To: Louisiana

I am moving to Louisiana for school and will be bringing my dog with me. He is four years old and neutered and has been kept up to date with vaccines and health checks. To 'import' my pet to the US what needs to be done? His last set of vaccines was in February (just over six months before the move date) and we will be driving across the border.

Thanks,

Brittany

Hi Brittany,

Thanks for your inquiry, we'd be happy to offer some advice. Fortunately, driving across the border into the US from Canada with a pet isn't too difficult. We actually recently covered the topic of going from the US to Canada, and this should hopefully be a little easier (take a look at this link for US pet import requirements). You're also welcome to contact our office for further information.

Good luck with your trip, with school, and with everything else!
