Pet Travel Question: Flying a dog to the UK

Hello, I'm flying from Mexico to London on April 3rd 2012, and I want to take my female dog Jackie with me. The problem is that the airline tells me that bringing dogs into the UK on commercial flights is prohibited! Is this true?
